Dish Network Offers A Look At The Future
Fortunately Dish Network can provide you with a couple of glimpses into the future of entertainment technology. That's because, Dish Network has several services that you can use in order to take greater control of how you watch TV, and control over your TV and its programming will be a hallmark of the future of home entertainment technology.
One great example of a type of technology that can do this is Dish Network's special PPV service that's called Dish On Demand. With Dish On Demand, you have a lot more control over how you watch your pay per view movies than you did with more primitive pay per view services. That's because as soon as you've selected and paid for the movie that you want to watch through Dish On Demand, you can start watching that movie without waiting for the next start time like you would with a conventional PPV service.
Dish On Demand also helps you to take more control over how you watch the movie while you're watching it. For example, if you need to duck into the kitchen for a few minutes while you're watching a movie through Dish On Demand, you can just pause it. If you happen to miss a scene or want to go back to see if you heard a particular line correctly you can rewind the movie, and if you know that you don't want to see a certain scene in the movie, you can even fast forward past it.
Dish On Demand also gives you a lot more than normal pay per view because it lets you watch a movie as many times as you want in the twenty four hour period following the moment you paid for the movie. In that sense Dish On Demand is a lot more like a video rental than pay per view programming! But you still don't have to worry about late fees.
Eventually TV technology will probably allow all of us to watch whatever we want on an on demand basis, but until then a digital video recorder will allow you to approximate that capability. A digital video recorder, which is called a DVR for the sake of brevity, is a high tech computerized replacement for the old fashioned VCR. It will automatically record TV shows, sports events, news casts, and movies of your choosing even when you aren't at home just like a VCR, but it has a number of improvements over VCR's. These improvements consist of the fact that a DVR is easy to program and the fact that a digital video recorder stores all of the recordings on a built in hard disk that's cable of holding up to one hundred or to hundred hour of video depending on the model. Once a program is recorded on the hard disk you'll be able to access it on an on demand basis.
Both of these technologies from Dish Network offer a glimpse into the future of entertainment technology
Obama promises plan to cut mortgage costs
Obama and his top advisers are weighing how to structure the remaining $350 billion that Congress approved last year to save financial institutions and lenders from collapse. The new president also warned there is no single action that would allow his administration to fix the struggling U.S. economy, a stark statement at the end of a week that saw tens of thousands of Americans lose their jobs.
Obama, who has made fighting the country's economic and financial crises the top priority of his young administration, called on the U.S. Senate to approve an economic stimulus bill that the House of Representatives passed this week.
The final three months of last year sent the economy into its worst downhill slide in a quarter-century. The economy stumbled backward at a 3.8 percent pace, government economists said Friday; that rate could accelerate to 5 percent or more this quarter.
But as economic conditions get worse the president said new strategies were coming to address the country's ills.
"Soon my Treasury secretary, Tim Geithner, will announce a new strategy for reviving our financial system that gets credit flowing to businesses and families," Obama, a Democrat, said in his weekly radio and Internet address.
"We'll help lower mortgage costs and extend loans to small businesses so they can create jobs."
Obama did not offer specifics about the new plan or say when it would be unveiled. His chief spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said on Friday that the White House would hold meetings next week about financial industry regulation.
Toxic assets
Geithner met with the administration's top officials and advisers in recent days, trying to finish a plan to overhaul the $700 billion bailout program that is already half gone. Geithner previously said the administration is weighing the possibility of using a government-run "bad bank" to buy up toxic assets that are weighing on the books of financial institutions, but some officials now say that option is gone because of potential costs.
Many of the measures under consideration could end up costing taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars beyond the original $700 billion price tag. Aides would not rule out the possibility of the administration's asking for more than the $350 billion already allocated.
Republicans, who opposed the president's stimulus package of over $800 billion largely because of its spending priorities, suggested mortgage help as well, proposing government-backed 4 percent fixed-rate mortgages for "any credit-worthy borrower," Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said.
"The availability of these low-interest loans would increase demand for houses significantly and low-interest mortgages would boost household income," McConnell said in a separate radio address.
Obama said his plan would ensure corporate chief executives do not siphon away tax dollars to fund big bonuses, expressing outrage again at reports of big pay-outs in 2008 despite massive job cuts, financial losses and government bailouts.
'Arrogance and greed'
"We learned this week that even as they petitioned for taxpayer assistance, Wall Street firms shamefully paid out nearly $20 billion in bonuses for 2008," the president said.
"While I'm committed to doing what it takes to maintain the flow of credit, the American people will not excuse or tolerate such arrogance and greed."
The president said he would insist on "unprecedented transparency, rigorous oversight, and clear accountability" for funds that went toward stabilizing the financial system.
He repeated his mantra that the country's economic picture would likely get worse before it got better and seemed to hedge a bit on how many jobs his proposals would create and by when.
In Saturday's address, he said his stimulus package would save or create at least 3 million jobs "over the next few years." During his address on January 10, before he had taken over the presidency from Republican George W. Bush, Obama said an analysis by his advisers showed up to 4 million jobs could be saved or created by 2010 through the package.
Obama said he would work with both political parties to ensure a strong stimulus bill eventually made it to his desk.
"Americans know that our economic recovery will take years — not months," he said. "But they will have little patience if we allow politics to get in the way of action, and our economy continues to slide."
Afghans threaten troops over civilian deaths
MEHTERLAM, Afghanistan - An angry Afghan man with a thick black beard ranted wildly at the U.S. officials, shouting about how their overnight raid had killed 16 civilians in his village. An Afghan elder cried out in grief that his son and four grandsons were among the dead.
One after another, a long line of government officials, villagers and community leaders told American military officials at the Laghman governor's compound that Afghan soldiers must be allowed to take part in such raids. Several predicted increased violence against U.S. forces if more nighttime operations take place.
Three recent U.S. Special Forces operations killed 50 people — the vast majority civilians, Afghan officials say — raising the ire of villagers and President Hamid Karzai, who set a one-month deadline for his demand that Afghan soldiers play a bigger role in military operations.
Hip Scrubs Nursing Scrubs Essentials
The complete hospital scrubs outfit is composed of a scrub top, scrub pants, jacket, lab coat, scrub shoes and, on occasion, scrub caps. Each piece of clothing has its respective function that contributes to the whole outfit.
Scrub tops are perhaps the garment people notice first. Design is important for scrub tops, but comfort should not be sacrificed. With nurses and doctors typically working long hours, scrub tops should provide a wide range of movement for the upper body. Scrub tops for men and women may be different in terms of looks but both should offer un-restrained movement for increased productivity.
Nursing scrubs cant be complete without scrub pants. Like the top, scrub pants must also afford its wearer great freedom of movement. In most cases, nurses have to be quick on their feet when running gurneys and attending to medical emergencies. Same goes for doctors and other medical assistants.
Most modern hospitals and medical facilities have zealous air-conditioning systems. Aside from complementing mens and womens scrubs with an additional garment, scrub jackets provide warmth in a hospitals cold conditions. In terms of function, a scrub jacket with large pockets enables its wearer to bring along other medical instruments such as medical tape, stethoscopes, and scissors.
Labcoats are very essential to medical professionals, especially for those who deal with chemicals and work in fire-prone areas such as laboratories. Although a labcoat is not flame retardant, it protects the wearers skin from chemical spills and sudden bursts of flame with its tight-woven cotton/polyester combination.
Although nursing scrubs can do without a nursing cap, they have long been associated as a vital component of a nurses clothing ensemble. Although it has evolved from being a piece of clothing to a fashion statement, a nursing cap still serves its purpose to protect patients from contaminants found in hair.
Of course, mens and womens scrubs are rendered incomplete without nursing shoes. There are a lot of nursing footwear options to choose from, ranging from easy slide-ons and clogs to traditional tie-up models. But the thing to remember here is comfort. The feet are the most used part of the human body. Nursing shoes that have heel cushions and are ultra lightweight are the preferred choice of modern nurses. Male nurses prefer to pair their mens scrubs with shoes that have the athletic look while female nurses usually like ones that have a feminine touch.
Other medical accessories that complete womens and mens scrub outfits are stethoscopes, thermometers, and masks. Nurses are often times the first medical personnel to attend to a patient before the doctor. Stethoscopes and thermometers are important in checking a persons vital signs while masks protect nurses from viruses that may enter their airways.

Women's Hair Cut Trends 2009
Throughout 2008, women's hair cuts did one thing: they got shorter. There was the bob hair trend, the pixie-crop hair trend, and a plethora of others in between.
And unlike the length of women's hair, their popularity grew.
Which leaves us with an interesting predicament for 2009's hair trends: the fashion forward, short hair styles of 2008 are no longer fashion forward. They're no longer unique. Every woman and her chuiauia got one.
So in 2009, fashion forward girls have a choice to make: keep the bobs and blend into the crowd or, to stand out, cut their hair shorter or let it grow.
The Cropped Bob & The Pixie Crop
Girls who cut the bob in 2008 and want a fashion forward look in 2009, are going to have to either let their hair grow out or go something more extreme. Enter the cropped bob and the pixie crop; both perfect for Spring/Summer 2009, but far more difficult to wear for Autumn (Fall)/Winter 2008/2009.
The Cropped Bob
To put it bluntly: the cropped bob is extreme. It's not quite a pixie crop (below) nor a bob. Short all over, even with a heavily shortened blunt cut fringe, it's can only be worn by those who ooze confidence. Just look at Agyness Deyn's cropped, fringed bob (right). Attention grabbing, it's even far less subtle with peroxide blonde hair which I'm tipping as the best colour to wear it with.

The Pixie Crop
The pixie crop started as a hair trend in 2008 but, as a natural progression from the bob hair cut, expect to see plenty of it in 2009.
For those fashionisers who are willing to really take scissors to their hair, the pixie crop offers a bold look far less subtle than the cropped bob, and one that is both young and funky when done right. And doing it right has everything to do with the styling: as we learnt from Katie Holme's pixie crop a lack of styling and product and you can look suddenly middle-aged.

Addax Petroleum Announces Significant New Discovery in Nigeria
Commenting, Jean Claude Gandur, President and Chief Executive Officer of Addax Petroleum said: "I am extremely proud to report an excellent start to 2009 with this successful exploration result in Nigeria as it is a leading discovery that has the potential to be one of our largest fields in Nigeria. The Njaba discovery is the first exploration well to be drilled in OML124 since the mid-80's and these results will increase the production potential of the license area considerably, as well as significantly upgrade the remaining undrilled prospects. This onshore discovery is a further example of Addax Petroleum's commitment to development in Nigeria. In addition, this recent success represents yet another highlight for our highly prolific Nigerian operations as it will strengthen our record of growth in Nigeria and it underpins our robust and consistent operational performance." The Njaba discovery was consistent with pre-drill estimates having encountered four oil bearing reservoirs totaling 289 feet of gross oil column, including the two main individual gross columns of 149 feet and 115 feet of between 20 degrees and 28 degrees API at depths from 990 to 1,050 metres. Production from the Njaba discovery can be readily tied in as the Corporation has existing production facilities and infrastructure in the OML124 license area. Addax Petroleum continues to drill into secondary, lower sections relative to the newly discovered oil bearing intervals and plans to carry out a test of the main reservoirs. The Corporation also plans to drill an additional appraisal well down-dip of the discovery which may further enhance the recoverable reserves from Njaba.
About Addax Petroleum Addax Petroleum is an international oil and gas exploration and production company with a strategic focus on Africa and the Middle East. choice car audio
This car audio review covers the key factors to consider in selecting the car stereo system that will meet your needs. So you got tired of the OEM car sound system did you ? This car audio review will go over the key factors to consider in selecting the car stereo system that will meet your needs. Before discussing the individual components of a car stereo system here is a word of advice ... broughtto you by the CarAccessoriesMagazine !! Don't jump on next week's sale, don't rush your car audio review process, take your time, talk to friends, sales people, installers and get a goodfeel for what you really want. This car audio review will hopefully give you a head start.
IN DASH RECEIVER
In any car audio review, the most common question that people considering a change of car stereo system ask : will anaftermarket radio fit into my vehicle ? And the answer is ... (roll the drums) ... YES, becausethere are a variety of aftermarket kits available to adapt just about any aftermarket radio toyour vehicle.
AMPLIFIERS
The next item covered in this car audio review is the amplifiers . They are the backbone ofyour car stereo system. Weak amplifiers damage good speakers, not the other way around.Amplifiers are providing the musical power and do a great job of eliminating distortion and of upgrading the sound clarity. The size of the amplifiers will be proportionate to the level ofpower you want. You can tell a good power amp by turning the system above half volume and stillhearing clear amplification. Bear in mind that the more power you have the better control youhave over your system.
The location of the amplifiers in the vehicle is not critical, as long as they have enoughair flow and are mounted on a dry surface. If you install the amps yourself you will needa kit consisting of power wire, ground wire, RCA, remote turn on lead and a fuse. Crimpersand a drill are all the tools required.
CAR SPEAKERS
Next in our car audio review let's look at the benefits of aftermarket speakers. They have a larger frequency response (more music coming through the speakers), more power handling capabilities, they will brighten your highs and increase your bass.
There are two types of CAR speakers available : the dual cone and the two way. A dual cone has a small paper cone built into a larger paper cone. A two way actually mounts a separate tweeter on the larger paper cone. This allows for more frequency response and better sound quality. You will need to check the fit of your new speakers with your vehicle. You can take off your speaker cover and measure it. Make sure you get the depth if you can. Not all cars can accommodate speakers with a larger magnet.
HEAD UNIT
The next obvious question in this car audio review is : will it be CD or cassette ? The answer really depends on your listening habits and on your budget. Several head units now have both while still fitting into your dash.
You should also consider other important but often overlooked features in going through your car audio review. Many models offer detachable faceplates. This security feature will only work if you actually remove the faceplate. Some models have a plate that rotates when you turn off the vehicle, which makes it look like it’s been removed.
Another feature is an automatic volume control : the system automatically adjusts the radio volume up or down, depending on the vehicle's speed and the varying amount of road and wind noise in the vehicle.
Look for a unit that has large buttons versus small. Large buttons are easier to find and use. The radio should cause a minimum amount of distraction so the driver can keep his eyes and attention on the road. If you want to push this idea to the limit try to find a radio with greater spacing between the buttons. This makes the radio easier and safer to use as well.
The last head unit feature to discuss in our car audio review is the radio display. Large numbers and a clear readout is another reason for an enjoyable listening experience. Also, look for a radio that shows not only the radio station call number but also the time and preset number.
OTHER ACCESSORIES
This car audio review would not be complete without covering a few more items. First let's talk about tweeters. Although not a guarantee of quality sound, the use of separate tweeters will generally enhance the sound quality. Then we have separate subwoofers which are usually a good value for the cost because they will enhance the lower end sound on classical styles of music.
Our car audio review should ALSO cover the subject of CD changers. The "remote" changer type can be mounted under some seats, but traditionally they fit the best in the trunk area or rear hatch area. There is also the option of custom mounting the changer in the glove box or a side panel. It can be added to any system through a RF controller unit which interfaces through the existing AM/FM antenna lead. The frequency response thru the RF modulator is as good as with an in-dash CD but it still sounds better than a cassette. The "remote" changer can include up to 12 CDs. The in-dash CD is a cool feature that has begun to appear on more and more vehicles recently. Instead of a single-play CD changer in-dash, many systems now offer a six-disc unit. Bear in mind that the head unit and CD changer must be the same manufacturer and more importandly the same operating system. Some older models will not work with your newer models despite the fact they are the same manufacturer.Obama vs. Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq
Muntazer al Zaidi, the Iraqi shoe thrower, was the champion on presidential inauguration day not Barak Obama, whom 1000 Mexican demonstrators criticized for not having protested Zionist Israel,s invasion of Gaza.
The “embajada de muerte”=Embassy of Death=was attacked with a torrent of shoes as speakers denounced US imperialism for supporting Israel genocide. The protest was organized by the Mexican Movement in Solidarity with Palestine and the microphone was open to all.
Member groups of the umbrella organization identified Israel as a tool for US domination of the Middle East and especially its fuel. The movements for the emancipation of women and for revolutionary vendors spoke of the authentic struggles for national liberation of the Palestinians as well as the Afghans, Iraqis and the Basques.
Another group, Machetearte, explained that Obama won the elections precisely because the peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan have resisted imperialism,s invasion and are beating back the mercenary soldiers.
A religious group pointed out that Gaza is a new Auschwitz and those responsible should be brought before a new Nuremberg. They pointed out that Obama must honor his words: “US is a friend of all nations” and thus pull out invading and occupying troops throughout the world.
The organizers took on their own neo-liberal government for timidity before the slaughter of innocent Palestinians. Mexico’s government is a lackey still of US imperialism, they said, while much of Latin America is breaking its dependency. The governments of Venezuela and Bolivia were praised for ending diplomatic relations with Israel; organizers called upon their own government to do the same.
For a veteran of protests against imperialism, this manifestation before the “embajada de muerte” in this city of nearly twenty million people reminded me of another one a dozen years ago when some 50,000 of us took the entire eight lane Reforma avenue in support of the Contadora process aimed at kicking the warring United States out of Central American. Now the wars here are over and anti=imperialist governments are in power in some countries. Some are aligned in the new ALBA regional economic pact which operates outside of US imperialism. This is the case in Nicaragua, partially so in Honduras and Guatemala. And in El Salvador, the transformed FMLN guerrilla groups look forward to winning the upcoming presidential elections.
Although US imperialism will remain an active force for some time, it will not take another dozen years for the invaded Middle East to win its sovereignty.AUTHOR: Ron RIDENOUR

Guide Review - 'President Obama: The Path to the White House' - Time Commemorative Edition
President Obama: The Road to the White House is a slim volume for a keepsake book. Indeed, one could easily fill three times as many pages with photos of Barack Obama's life and historic campaign. The editor's of Time were selective, though, and chose to highlight iconic photographs by Callie Shell. They wove these photos between articles that about Obama that Time has published over the past several years.Although I would have enjoyed more photographs, I enjoyed the perspective that Shell provides through the ones that are included. Not only are the photos excellent, but the captions provide an inside look at Barack Obama and his family. Who knew, for instance, that the Obamas watched a hot dog eating contest on TV together on the Fourth of July before going to campaign events?
The ten articles by eight different authors are well written, and tell the story of how Obama became who he is and how he captured Americans' imaginations.
President Obama: The Path to the White House is a little gushing. Of course, this is a commemorative book, not a journalistic critique of the man. If you are a fan of Obama, you will be pleased with this keepsake.
